Coaching
differs from counselling in that it deals primarily with skills,
attitudes and behaviour, often in the working environment,
where there is no need to address deeper issues. I am able
to match my workplace knowledge with my counselling awareness
and skills to offer this service.
What
people need from coaching differs greatly, and it is important
to clarify, from the start, what the client wants the coaching
for, and how they want it to help them.
Some
people want a clearer sense of direction and purpose. They
may have lost focus, or have never had a clear sense of direction
or career progression.
For others, the priority is to define a goal. And then they
may want support while they move towards that goal themselves.
Some people need help to unblock their thoughts and talents.
Others need to be challenged.
For senior executives in particular, there may be limited
opportunities to seek advice internally, so an external "sounding
board" can be invaluable.
I also offer debriefing for 360 degree feedback and group facilitation, for example on management training and MBA courses.
By
offering coaching, an organisation can demonstrate belief
in an employee who used to deliver and who has recently lost
direction, often through re-organisation, or has lost their
sense of priorities, often through stress.
